New for 2023: Surgery Decision Support (SDS) Requirement!
UnitedHealthcare medical plan participants (age 18 and older) are required to complete the SDS program prior to surgery if their doctor recommends one of the following (i.e., non-emergency) surgeries:
- Weight Loss (Bariatric) Surgery
- Hysterectomy
- Knee Replacement
- Hip Replacement
- Lower Back Surgery
A $750 claim penalty will apply if the SDS program has not been completed before a surgery.
Anyone enrolled in a Corning medical plan (not just UnitedHealthcare) can complete the program and receive a $400 prepaid card from ConsumerMedical for participating. This will help you understand risks/benefits and alternatives to surgery.
